Geologists raise hope of portable water in Abia community

-

Hope has risen in Ndi Okorie Abam in Abia State for portable water, following the report of a hydrological survey conducted by geologists confirming the possibility of sinking a borehole.

Effort made in the past to sink a borehole failed because the water table could not be reached.

Last month, a lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia in the House of Representatives, Uko Nkole, toured communities with water challenges, including Ndi Okorie Abam, Nkporo, and Abiriba, and promised to support water projects.

Nkole then mobilised experts to conduct a pre-drilling hydrological survey, which a professor of hydrology at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Ibe Kalu, said is necessary because some boreholes fail or dry up when preliminary survey is not done.

A geologist with the drilling company, James Nkole, promised that the company would provide water even if the borehole is 400 feet deep.

Town union Chairman, Agwu Okeke, said the people are excited at the prospect of potable water because they drink from a spring that dries up in the dry season.
