Gabosky said at the launch in Lagos recently that the journey started long before Kenneth Nnebue popularised the Direct-to-Home Video (DTH) delivery of motion picture, prior to where motion picture was either delivered to cinemas or on television.

He explained that the pioneering works of the electronic merchants at Idumota (Lagos), Upper Iweka (Onitsha), Pounds Road (Aba) and later on Alaba International (Lagos) will never be well documented without the mention of Gabosky and Chezkay films.

He, however, reflected: “The inadequacies of our past system created chasms on the journey to evolution of Nollywood into a world-class economic sector.”

Gabosky went on to talk about how distribution is done in other climes, which is usually from cinema to rental, pay per view, DVD sales and TV premiere. And the product on sale is intellectual property and rights to exploit the contents on its various formats through various windows with the DVD being the more enduring, lucrative and ubiquitous.

In Nigeria, he said, the route is usually the VCD sales and TV premiere.

Gabosky’s speech turned out to be a history of Nollywood and how things should not be done, and which G-Media is here to change.

The event was well attended by industry stakeholders who supported this all-important innovation.
