Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike says he and his G5 allies will soon conclude talks on the presidential candidate to support on 25 February – a choice likely to boil down to Peter Obi or Bola Tinubu, since they have turned their backs on Atiku Abubakar.

He said the person is “a man of integrity” who keeps his word.

“Now, it is one man, one vote. All the votes must be in one basket from the governorship to the House of Assembly. The other one we are concluding. When we conclude, you will be told,” he told a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Ikwerre Council, per Vanguard.

“Nobody should intimidate you. Nobody should tell you any story. We are free-born in this country. We are not second-class citizens. Nobody can tell us anything. I dare them. Let anybody do any funny thing, we’ll tell them we are from Rivers State.

“This election we are going for is a fight to the finish and we are very ready. We are waiting for those strangers, those people who can sell their state for a pot of porridge, we are waiting for them to come back.

“Do they have anything to offer?” he asked his supporters who chorused a loud, “No.”

A man of integrity who keeps his word

Later, Wike described the G5 candidate as a man of integrity who keeps his word and will not renege on agreement. But he did not disclose the name.

He told PDP stalwart Ohna Awuse and other party members to exercise patience on the announcement of the preferred candidate as the negotiations would soon be concluded, according to reporting by The Nation.

“Awuse has said, ‘we are tired of waiting’. Indeed, we are tired of waiting. But don’t worry. You’ve been patient. Your being patient will not be taken for granted.

“The bell will soon ring. When you hear the bell, listen to where the bell is coming from and go and do what you have been told to do.

“I can assure you all these buccaneers, all these vampires, we will teach them a lesson. All those who said Rivers State is not important, we’ll tell them that Rivers State is important.

“If you play with us, we’ll play with you. If they play with us, we’ll play with them. Enough is enough.

“So, let me apologise and plead with Ohna, Nne-New-Eli Emohua Local Government, it is almost time, endure. Very soon, you’ll hear and I can assure them, no going back.”

Wike said he is waiting for those who threatened to expel him from the PDP to carry it out, warning expelling him and his allies would lead to the extinction of the party.
