FUT to parade 62 First Class, 46 PhDs during Convocation ceremony

The 27th Convocation Ceremony and the 35th Founders’ Day of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, will be graduating 3,741 for the 2016/2017 academic session, including 62 First Class and 46 PhDs.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdullahi Bala, disclosed this while briefing journalists.
He said that the week-long event would start with prayers in Mosques on Friday and church service at the Chapel of Grace, Bosso and Gidan-Kwano campuses, respectively, on Sunday.

Bala, who will be presiding over the convocation for the first time since his assumption of duty as the vice chancellor said at the university’s main campus, Gidan-Kwano, that, 3, 096 graduands would receive the school’s First Class degree certificates.
According to the vice chancellor, “A total of 3, 096 graduands will receive First degrees, while 426 will be awarded Masters Degrees, 46 others will bag PhDs and another 173 to be awarded Post Graduate Diplomas (PGDs) in various courses offered by FUT, Minna.
“Out of the First degree category, which is classified, 62 are First class, 1,006 in Second Class Upper divisions, 1, 526 Second class lower division, 468 in Third class, while 34 are with Pass degrees”, the Vice Chancellor further explained.
He said that the week-long event would climax with the commissioning of the, School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology Complex, Phase 11 building by the Executive Secretary TETFund, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa, before the convocation proper on February 1, 2018.
The Vice Chancellor who attributed the increase in the number of candidates that made First Class from last year’s 34 to 62 this year, said that the different Departments and Schools would during the convocation showcase their research outputs to the general public.
