Fubara, family, security aides exit Rivers gov’t house

By Jeffrey Agbo

The suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt, departing with his family and security team.

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Fubara, his deputy and the House of Assembly for six months in the first instance over the political crisis in the state.

According to an insider quoted by Vanguard, the governor left the state’s seat of power late Tuesday following the emergency rule proclamation.

By Wednesday afternoon, around 2 pm, security presence at the Government House had noticeably thinned. However, two Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) were positioned at the entrance, manned by a small contingent of security officers.

Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd), appointed by President Tinubu to oversee the state for the next six months, had yet to assume office as of 12:50 pm on Wednesday.

At least about 15 soldiers were stationed within the Government House in anticipation of the new administrator’s entry.

As of the time of this report, the exact location of Fubara and his family remained unknown.
