Four young Nigerians to receive award at Buckingham Palace

Kelvin Ogholi, Oladipupo Ajiroba, Nkechikwu Azinge and Isaiah Owolabi will on Monday, June 22 be honoured by the Queen of England, Elizabeth IIat Buckingham Palace.

According to a press statement from the organisers of the award each year from 2014 to 2018, 60 exceptional young people will be selected to receive a Queen’s Young Leaders Award and become ‘Queen’s Young Leaders’ – one for every year that The Queen had served as Head of the Commonwealth at the time of her Diamond Jubilee.

 

queen elizabethNaturally, these four Nigerians are among 60 exceptional young people from across the Commonwealth who have been recognised by The Queen for taking the lead in transforming the lives of others and make a lasting difference in their communities.

 

Ogholi, 26, from Benin City, is a social entrepreneur, has been recognised for his social enterprise project that halved the cost of feed for farmers, 28-year-old Ajiroba from Sagamu has been selected in recognition of his work to champion environmental issues. While 26-year-old Azinge from Abuja has been acknowledged for her efforts to encourage young people to get tested for sickle cell anaemia, and 27 year old Owolabi from Lagos was also selected in recognition of his health initiative which helps disadvantaged women and children to lead healthy lives.

Before receiving their Award at Buckingham Palace the winners will meet the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron at 10 Downing Street, visit the headquarters of global social networking company, Twitter and meet with senior executives at the BBC World Service.

 

Guided by the values of the Commonwealth Charter, the statement said, the goal of the programme is to enable young people to step up as leaders and improve the lives of people across the Commonwealth.
