The former governor of Abia state has urged the Super Eagles boss to recall the Villareal forward for his World Cup squad

Former Abia State governor Orji Uzor Kalu has made a passionate plea to coach Stephen Keshi to bring back out-of-favour Super Eagles striker, Ikechukwu Uche in his World Cup squad.
The 30-year-old is on the verge of missing out on another World Cup after being missing out of South Africa 2010 despite leading the goals chart in the qualifiers due to injury. He has been ignored since February 2013 when he last featured for the Super Eagles in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Kalu pleaded with Keshi to have a change of mind and include the Villareal forward in his World Cup team.
“As a passionate football fan, I appeal to my good friend Keshi, to have a change of mind and include Uche in his World Cup team. The boy should be forgiven since he is now remorseful,” Kalu was qouted as saying by his special adviser Kunle Oyewumi.
Kalu, who sponsored Enyimba of Aba to emerge CAF Champions League Champions twice, praised the former Togo and Mali national team coach for recalling the duo of Joseph Yobo and Osaze Odemwingie, and prayed that Uche would also get a reprieve.
“Football is a competitive game, we should not allow personal interest to override national aspirations. I salute Keshi for bringing back Yobo and Osaze. I wish he could extend same to Uche,” Kalu added.
