Former footballer, Hiannick Kamba, found alive four years after he was presumed dead

-

Hiannick Kamba, who was reported dead after a car crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2016, has been found alive.

The revelation was reported by German newspaper, Bild, which discovered Kamba has been working for a German energy company.

Kamba, now 33, was once a promising prospect for Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04.

In 2016, however, it was reported he had been killed in a car crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where Kamba was from.

Kamba clarified what actually happened, telling a German prosecutor he was abandoned by his friends, who took his documentation, cell phone and money. Kamba said that he approached a German embassy in the Congolese capital of Kinshasa in 2018 to prove he was still alive, but losing his identification made the process take much longer than expected, according to the New York Post.

As a result of Bild’s discovery, Kamba’s ex-wife is being investigated for insurance fraud. Following Kamba’s presumed death, his wife was able to produce documents confirming Kamba’s death.

She collected a six-figure insurance policy as a result. Kamba will be named as a witness in the case.

Kamba said that he was unaware of his wife’s actions.
