When Babatunde Fashola was at the helm of affairs in Lagos State, his slogan was ‘Eko o ni baje’ (Lagos will not be destroyed) and he pursued it to the end of his tenure.
Now, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s slogan is ‘Itesiwaju Eko lo je wa l’ogun’ (moving Lagos forward is our priority).
Going by this slogan, it seems Ambode is set to go beyond the usual means of communication to engage citizens on the social media. His Twitter handle is ever busy, with the governor interacting with Lagosians.
Even with his tight schedule, Ambode still has time to tweet and retweet, especially if it has to do with state of roads, security and traffic.
The responses are prompt, which is very commendable.
The governor had the time to inform an Ikorodu resident the expected delivery period of a road and the resident promised to monitor roads and feed him back.
In addition to his Twitter handle, where he has about 1,600 posts, the governor also set up an e-mail to facilitate engagement on the progress and development of Lagos.
This smacks of a responsive government. But for how long can the governor sustain his visibility on the social media?
