Residents of Ubomiri in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State on Thursday alleged that soldiers of the Nigerian Army 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, killed at least five members of their community on Wednesday.
The rampaging soldiers, according to the community members who spoke to TheNiche on condition of anonymity, were retaliating the killing of two soldiers by members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
It is not clear if the IPOB members who committed the crime are from Ubomiri, but the residents said the soldiers indiscriminately killed five community members, while threatening to return again today, October 22, to in their words: “anything you see, you take it.”
Some members of the community are already scampering for safety to escape becoming casualties of further reprisal attacks by the military.
