Mia Love, former member of the United States House of Representatives and the first Black woman elected to Congress as a Republican, has passed away.
According to her family, the 49-year-old politician died on Sunday, March 23, following a battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Sharing a post on X, the family announced that it was “with grateful hearts filled to overflowing for the profound influence of Mia on our lives, we want you to know that she passed away peacefully today.”

The social media post further revealed that the former lawmaker was in her home surrounded by family when she gave up the ghost.
Love had been undergoing treatment for brain cancer, but her daughter said earlier this month that the former congresswoman’s cancer was no longer responding to it.
The deceased was elected as a representative of Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019.
Also confirming her demise, Utah Governor, Spencer Cox described Love as “a true trailblazer and visionary leader”.
