First ASAA conference holds October; calls for papers

Organisers of the first African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA) conference have called for abstracts, papers and panel proposals for the gathering expected to take place from October 13 to 17.

 

With the theme, ‘African Studies in the twenty-first century: past, present, and future’, the venue is the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria, the organisers said.

According to a statement from the organisers, the objectives of ASAA at this conference are twofold. “The first is to domesticate the field and study of Africa on the mother continent and the second is to make accessible the results of the study, teaching and research of the field readily available to all stakeholders around the world.”

 

From the timetable released by the organisers, abstracts and panel proposals are expected from March 1 to 30. While early registration will take place from June 1 to July 31, late registration will be from August 15 to September 30.

 

Among the proposed panels for the conference are: ‘Definitions, Methodologies and Theories’, ‘Deconstructing the teaching research of African Studies’, ‘Roundtable/Plenary on Curriculum development, teaching and pedagogy’ and ‘Inter-disciplinarity in African Studies’.

The opening ceremony and keynote sessions will be at the International Conference Centre (ICC), UI, on Wednesday October 14, 2015 at 10am. Departure will be on Saturday, October 17.
