Lawal was the FIRS State Coordinator for Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states.

According to ThisDay, during the sporadic shooting, bullets reportedly hit two petrol tankers which burst into flames, causing destruction in the area.

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ahmed Ibrahim Inga confirmed the incident which he described as sad and pathetic.
