However, firefighters have finally put out the fire.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, and posted on the official X handle of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, on Wednesday, November 1.

The statement read, “The fire, which was reported 15 minutes into the new month, summoned the concerted efforts of the fire crews from Sari Iganmu, Ajegunle, Ilupeju, and Bolade Stations of the Agency, with the assistance of the Federal Fire Service and LASEMA and the security back-up of the Nigerian Police Force.

“The sawmill market also trades in building materials as the fire rapidly spread because of the combustible materials involved, which include inflammatory wood polish, and given the dryness of the season, however, it met the competency of the firefighters.”

Adeseye added that the cause of the fire cannot be immediately ascertained but will be revealed after the mop-up of the exercise that is at the dampening-down stage, along with the enumeration of the property and cost.

She further stated that no casualties have been recorded in this operation, as further details will subsequently be made known.
