Two Finnish universities are included in The Times Higher Education 100 under 50 2014 list which ranks globally the top 100 universities under 50 years old.
The list includes institutions with great potential for the future, according to The Times Higher Education 100.
The University of Eastern Finland, which has campuses in Kuopio and Joensuu, is ranked 53rd. The Tampere University of Technology, based in Tampere, is 98th.
Universities are ranked on research volume, income and reputation; research influence reflected in citations; teaching; international outlook and industry income from innovations.
The University of Eastern Finland scored 37.8 points, compared with first placed Korean university Pohang University of Science and Technology (69.8). The University of Eastern Finland does well in terms of research influence (citations) and international outlook.
Tampere University of Technology scored 30.1 with a very strong industry income from innovations, and also scored highly in international outlook.
The top five young universities globally are Pohang University of Science and Technology (Republic of Korea), École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Republic of Korea), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong), and Nayangr Technological University (Singapore).
