Fighting corruption shouldn’t halt economy, says Anglican bishop

The Anglican Bishop of Calabar Diocese, Tunde Adeleye, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to accelerate his key goal which is a sustainable economy.

Adeleye spoke in Calabar, where he also shed light on several issues, including the growth of the church.

He said the church is planting new branches, has commissioned 80 evangelists, opened the School of Evangelism, and restructured its academic institutions.

“The entire year has rolled away as if it was just a week! We have proof of God’s faithfulness and there are so many things to show as a church committed to serving Him,” he added.

Adeleye appealed to Buhari to kick start the growth of the economy.

“We commend the administration of Buhari in its fight to curb corruption, we appeal to him to quickly put the economy in good shape because right even inside the church, there is a poor turn-out in offering and if things continue this way for too long, there will be chaos.

“On the whole, we still strongly believe that true federalism is the major way of solving the myriads of challenges in Nigeria. The centre is too attractive and too powerful.

“Until and unless we decentralise into true federalism, we will continue to run around, making movements but not advancing.”
