Arsenal legendary gaffer, Arsene Wenger, has said Chelsea’s new owners cannot spend like Roman Abramovich because the rules have changed.

Abramovich, after relinquishing the running of the club to trustees, has now put Chelsea up for sale, arguing the decision is in the club’s best interest.

The Russian who bought Chelsea for £140 million back in 2003, has set a £3 billion asking price and he is believed to be close to selling the Premier League club.

According to Sky Sports, the 55-year-old who has transformed Chelsea into perennial winners since he bought it, has prioritized selling the club to investors who are capable of investing heavily in the football club.

He said, “You cannot. Today you cannot put that money in, privately, that is impossible. It is limited to, I think, £200m over three years. At that time you could put a billion in.

“I always advised people who wanted to buy football clubs, instead of putting £100m in every year, put £500m in the first year and buy the right players, then you have a team. He could do that and he did very well and today I think the club is managed very well and is at a top-level.”

Arsene Wenger after leaving The Gunners in 2018, joined FIFA as its Chief of Global Football Development.

The Frenchman won three English Premier League titles and seven FA Cups and led Arsenal to an unbeaten league season in 2003/04.
