FIFA Playoff: Ndidi back for Super Eagles as CAF clears him for Congo final clash

By Uzor Odigbo

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to play against DR Congo in Sunday’s World Cup playoff final.

This is a major boost for Nigeria, as Ndidi’s experience and leadership will be crucial in the team’s quest for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

According to CAF, cautions accumulated during the World Cup qualifiers do not carry over into the playoffs, meaning Ndidi is free to participate in the high-stakes match.

Only confirmed suspensions apply, and Ndidi does not have any outstanding bans.

This ruling comes after initial reports suggested he might be suspended due to yellow cards received during the qualifying series.

Ndidi’s availability is a significant advantage for coach Eric Chelle, who had previously lamented the midfielder’s potential absence.

The Super Eagles will face a tough challenge against DR Congo, who eliminated Cameroon in their semi-final, but with Ndidi on board, Nigeria’s chances of securing a win have just got better.

The match is scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco, and the winner will advance to the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.
