FIBA Africa Zone 3: Ghana, CIV, others confirm participation for 3×3 Tour

The FIBA Africa Zone 3, 3×3 Tour powered by the AMK Foundation, taking place in Lagos, Nigeria from June 18 to 21, 2015, is set to roll off the ground with all the eight countries under the Zone confirming their participation.

Guebre Boukary and Idrissu Ayambire of Burkina Faso and Ghana Basketball Federations respectively confirmed their participation having registered with the FIBA Africa Secretariat who are coordinating the event with FIBA Africa Zone 3.

FIBA Africa Zone 3 Board President, Col Sam Ahmedu (Rtd) of Nigeria who attended the second meeting of the Organizing Committee also confirmed the participation of the eight countries under the zone.

 

He said: “I am glad to confirm to you that the all the National Federations under the Zone have confirmed participation through letters and emails. I can also confirm that they have registered their teams with the FIBA Africa 3×3 department in Abidjan.

“Some of the National Federation Presidents have also called in to assure us of their presence during the period of the Tournament.”

 

A breakdown of the confirmation of entries shows that the Togo Basketball Federation are fielding players in all the categories namely U-18 Boys, U-18 Girls, Senior men, Senior Women and in the Mixed Team Category.

 

Benin Republic Basketball Federation President, Alex Paraisso said it won’t be any different for his country too as they are set to compete in all the categories, which also goes for Nigeria, Ghana, Niger Republic and Cote d’ Ivoire.

 

However, Burkina Faso Basketball Federation has indicated its interest to participate only in the U-18 Boys and U-18 Girls, with a caveat that it may still enter teams in the Senior Men and Women Categories.

 

The National Federations of Niger and Liberia are expected to complete their entries on or Thursday, 11th June, 2015.

 

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has thrown open its slots for the event to interested clubs in Nigeria. Each category will comprise of four players and one coach.

 

Issues of wild cards for the championship will be determined by the Organizing Committee for the FIBA Africa Zone 3, 3×3 Tour.
