Federal Government has removed the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Martin Abeshi. He was removed on Monday, May 16, 2016, while details of his replacement are still sketchy. There were indications that a deputy Comptroller, one Babandede, who is in charge of Investigations and Enforcement has been appointed to succeed Abeshi in acting capacity.
Martin Kure Abeshi was appointed substantive Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on August 27, 2015 after acting in that capacity for six days. He was born on May 15, 1956 in Amba, Kokona Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. He attended St. Williams Primary School, Keffi, from where he proceeded to Government College Keffi, then to Ohio University Athens USA and later to Benue State University, Markudi where he bagged a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Abeshi has a media background haven worked with PR TV, Jos from where he moved to the NIS as an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI). Prior to his appointment as CGI, he was Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration, (DCG) Directorate of Works and Procurement. Abeshi, who plays Badminton and Golf, is an ardent fan of Manchester United Club. He is married and has children.
