FG noted that the Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando line has been out of service since a vandalism incident in October 2024

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said the national electricity grid will remain prone to collapse as long as insecurity persists in the country.

He made this known on Monday at the National Assembly complex, Abuja, during his ministry’s 2025 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Power.

According to him, persistent insecurity in the northern part of Nigeria has made it difficult for the federal government to repair a crucial transmission line.

Adelabu added that the Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando line, which had been out of service since a vandalism incident in October 2024, had caused immeasurable loss to the nation.

He further pointed out this is a major reason for the frequent collapse of the national grid.

“The Kaduna-Shiroro-Mando line was one of the two major lines transmitting power to the north.

“The second, the Ugwuaji-Makurdi line, was also vandalized but has been repaired.

“The Shiroro-Mando-Kaduna line, however, remains down due to insecurity.

“This is why our grid is so fragile, as it relies on a single line, causing unnecessary strain,” the minister said.

Adelabu further added that the FG can only restore power grid collapses quickly in a more secured environment.
