Federal High Court resumes proceedings September 17 after eight weeks annual vacation

The Federal High Court of Nigeria will on Tuesday September 16 end its 8 weeks annual vacation. Full proceedings and activities in all the judicial divisions of the court across the country commence on Wednesday September 17.

The resumption of the proceedings in all the judicial divisions of the court ushers in the new 2025/2026 legal year.

Recall that on July 28, 2025 the court by the approval of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Honorable Justice John Terhemba Tsoho began its annual vacation for judges. During the vacation, regular court cases did not hold.

However in order to dispense urgent matters bothering on fundamental human rights and Admiralty, particularly Vessels, two vacation Judges were appointed to hear such matters in each of the three major Judicial divisions of the court in Abuja, Lagos and Port-Harcourt

During the vacation, Abuja Judicial division entertained such urgent matters from all Northern States, Lagos Judicial division entertained urgent matters from all Western States while Port Harcourt Judicial division heard matters from all Eastern States.

“By virtue of the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Honorable Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, OFR, KSS, FCIArb. (UK) in an official circular, announced the 2025 Annual Vacation and Roster for Vacation Judges.

“The vacation will commence from Monday, the 28th day of July 2025, to Tuesday, the 16th day of September, 2025. The Court shall resume sitting on Wednesday, the 17th day of September, 2025.

“During the vacation period, the core Divisions; Abuja, Lagos and Port-Harcourt Judicial Divisions will remain functional for cases of extreme urgency.

“Consequently, the Litigating public will be at liberty to approach ONLY the above listed Courts located nearest to them.
