Seven Directors drawn from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are battling for the post of federal Accountant General which has been vacant since May 2022 sequel to the suspension of Ahmed Idris for alleged greed and graft.

Idris is facing probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly stealing N170 billion from the treasury.

The seven final candidates for his job were chosen from 20 shortlisted Directors cleared by anti-corruption agencies to contest for the post.

Ten out of the 20 failed the first test organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), per reporting by The PUNCH.

The 10 who failed scored below 50 per cent, the other 10 who passed proceeded to the second stage of the examination, which they took on Information Communications Technology (ICT) proficiency on 25 January.

Three Directors failed the second test, leaving seven in the race who took part in the last stage of the examination, an oral interview, on 26 January.

“The under-listed candidates are invited to the oral interview stage of the process of appointing a substantive Accountant-General of the Federation following their successful performance in Stages I and 2 of the exercise,” said a circular dated 25 January signed by Ernest Umakhikhe on behalf of the examination committee.
