FCT police arraigned businessman for allegedly buying stolen car

A Honda CRV which a businessman, Segun Akintomide, bought sometime in 2019, was allegedly stolen, the FCT police have said.

The businessman 42, was arraigned on Thursday, September 24, before a Gwagwalada Magistrates’ Court in the FCT, for being in possession of a stolen property.

According to the charge sheet read by the police Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu, Akintomide bought the alleged stolen Honda CRV for N250,000 from a suspect, Adeoye Olayemi, who stole it in Akure.

The police prosecutor said the offence is in violation of Section 317 of the Penal Code.But Akintomide pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Yusuf Ibrahim, gave Akintomide a bail condition of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum who must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction.

Magistrate Ibrahim also said the sureties must have valid means of identification which the court would vet.  The case was adjourned to October 22 for hearing.
