Former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has debunked reports suggesting he and other prominent politicians in Nigeria are defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Rumours that Fayemi is planning to dump the APC surfaced after Former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai resigned from the ruling party, on Monday, March 10.
Some media outlets reported that the former Ekiti governor and other politicians of note are expected to join El-Rufai after he defected.
Reacting to the reports in a post on his X handle on Monday, the former governor reaffirmed his commitment to APC, stating that nothing had changed regarding his political allegiance.

He further clarified that his status as a “card-carrying foundation member” of the party remained intact.
Fayemi reiterated his call for greater internal democracy and inclusion within the APC, expressing optimism that the party could still “change course and move towards greater inclusivity.”
“As I have previously stated, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.
“While I have been at the forefront of advocating for greater internal democracy and inclusion within our party, I believe it is still not too late for the APC to change course and embrace these values,” he said.
