A father and his three children plus their maid have been killed in a road accident along Ife-Ilesa Expressway in Osun, caused by a truck driving on the wrong lane.

The crash on Saturday involved a Mack trailer and the family’s Toyota Hilux vehicle, which left the wife critically injured.

A statement issued by Osun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Agnes Ogungbemi, explained that the accident was caused by the truck driver who drove on the wrong lane.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife and the injured woman was taken to a private hospital in Ipetumodu for treatment, Ogunghemi said.

She added that the truck driver is in police custody awaiting investigation and prosecution.

FRSC Sector Commander Taofeek Adeyemi disclosed that N508,900 and other items recovered from the scene were handed over to relatives of the deceased in the presence of police officers.

He warned road users to stop driving on wrong lanes and to strictly obey road traffic rules to curb unnecessary deaths on the roads.
