Former Aviation Minister and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, has risen in defense of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi.
Speaking in a statement he issued on Monday, Fani Kayode claimed that the DSS under Bichi’s leadership thwarted the disruption of democracy in Nigeria while reacting to an allegation levelled against the DSS DG.
A popular X (formerly Twitter) user, Jackson Ude, had alleged that Bichi looted a subsidy grant meant for the employees of the service.
After his claim, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, debunked the report, saying that no such grant had been allocated to the agency.

Reacting to the development, Fani-Kayode said, “Had it not been for Bichi and his DSS, Boko Haram and ISWAP would have taken Abuja years ago, and democracy may well have been brought to an end by mutinous soldiers during the tenure of @MBuhari”.
He challenged Ude to come to Nigeria and prove all he had said against the “hard-working & decent man and a dedicated servant of the Nigerian state” in court.
Adding that If he chooses to come, he will personally guarantee his safety once he is on Nigerian soil.
The former minister went on to say the DSS boss “in collaboration with the leadership of the other intelligence agencies and the military of those days, exposed and thwarted many coup attempts and ensured that the Islamist terrorists were repelled and contained”.
