The family of the late Afrobeats singer and rapper, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has forbidden his widow, Omowunmi, from using his surname.
Mohbad’s family conveyed the message in a recent statement jointly signed by the family head, Omolayo Aloba, and the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba.
The development comes amid the ongoing paternity dispute with Wunmi following Mohbad’s controversial death on September 12, 2023.
The artist died after allegedly receiving an injection from an auxiliary nurse. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy following the public outcry.
In May 2025, the investigation suffered a setback after pathologists reported that the cause of Mohbad’s death could not be determined.
However, in a new development, Omolayo Aloba said Wunmi is prohibited from using her late husband’s family name pending the outcome of a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their son, Liam.
He also argued that the mother of one was not legally married to the deceased singer.
HE said, “For the avoidance of doubt, no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo, as the required Yoruba traditional rites (payment of bride price) were never completed.”
The family also named Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal representative for the DNA case and Mohbad’s estate, while Wahab Shittu will continue handling all matters with investigative authorities regarding his death.
The statement, however, added that both the child and Wunmi would be included in the estate administration process after the DNA test confirms Liam as Mohbad’s biological son.
