A man, identified as Desmond Jacob, was picked up by men of the Nigeria Police Force.

He later claimed that he was among peaceful protesters that converged at the Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020, the day of the shooting that led to the loss of lives of peaceful protesters.

Jacob could be seen kneeling in front of the toll gate crying before police officers came and picked him up. However, after interrogation, he was released and asked to leave.

EndSARS was a decentralised mass protest against police brutality in Nigeria which occurred in October 2020.

The movement called for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigerian Police allegedly accused of having a long record of abuse on Nigerian citizens.

The protest took its name from the slogan and online conversation which started in 2017 as a Twitter campaign using the hashtag #EndSARS to demand the disbanding of the unit by the Nigerian government.

Solidarity protests and demonstrations by Nigerians in the diaspora and sympathizers also occurred in many major cities of the world.

The protest was notable for its patronage by a demographic that is made of entirely young Nigerians, the movement has since expanded to include demands for good and accountable governance.
