Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala has said that her side will aim to score more goals against hosts Namibia in their third game of the African Women Championship in Windhoek today.
Oshoala, who was the best player and top scorer at the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, said she was not disappointed after missing her several scoring efforts and only scored one against Zambia on Tuesday.
The Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt striker reiterated her ambition at the eight-nation women tournament is to bring home the AWC trophy.
She said: “I’m not frustrated missing some chances. I just want to do my work as an attacker, goal scoring is a try your luck thing. If it goes in, fine means you’re lucky, but if it doesn’t, I will keep trying and so I’m not frustrated or something,
“What I have in mind to achieve here is personal. I don’t want to disclose my targets now. But my major target is just to get the trophy back to Nigeria.
“I feel very happy. It’s a good start for the team coming to the competition like this and having two games and winning them, though it was not easy.
“Sincerely, a good start for us. We improved with every game – we were able to make up to four goals in the first game against a strong side and also in the second game, though I won’t say we met a weaker side but the team was able to make up to six goals.
“I think it is a sign of improvement and I feel in our next game we will try to improve on our goal scoring aspect and cohesion in the team.
The 20-year-old expressed delight at her country’s progress at the championship and promised they will improve in terms of scoring and understanding as a team.
“They should expect a good game from me and the team as a whole against Namibia – from the defence to the attack – a very good cohesion and everything will be fine.
The game between Nigeria and hosts Namibia is scheduled for 4pm Nigerian time at the Sam Njuoma Stadium, Windhoek.
