Falana highlights festering corruption, seeks crackdown on dollarisation of Nigerian economy

Human rights fighter Femi Falana SAN, has highlighted worsening corruption in Nigeria as bribes are now demanded and paid in dollars, even with President Bola Tinubu’s declaration to the world that corruption has been rooted out under him.

Falana bared his mind on Channels Television where he also reiterated his earlier call for a crackdown on the dollarisation of the economy, insisting that it is a criminal offence to reject the Nigerian currency, naira, in domestic transactions.

“The President was announcing gifts to footballers in dollars, not naira. It has to stop. We must promote the naira, not the dollar,” he said.

“As a matter of fact, it is a criminal offence to reject the naira. We need to stop paying fees and buying properties in dollars.”
