By Ishaya Ibrahim

A report of an attack by Fulani herdsmen on a luxury bus conveying passengers from Sokoto State to the Eastern part of Nigeria has widely circulated on Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

The report claims that the attack happened on January 14, 2020, and that mainly Igbo passengers numbering over 40 were abducted while the Hausa passengers were left alone.

Giving the enormity of the claim and how widely the story has circulated, TheNiche decided to fact check the story.

A simple Google search of the texts takes us to the origin of the claim, Radio Biafra Facebook page.

On the page, a picture of the ‘attacked bus’ was displayed.

The post attracted 256 comments and more than one thousand shares.

A fact check of the image using the reverse image search shows that the picture was first used on a Nairaland platform on April 19, 2016.

The report therefore of an attack against God Bless Ezenwata Bus where 40 passengers are currently missing is fake.
