Fabrizio Romano reveals Arsenal’s main target in January window

Fabrizio Romano said Arsenal will once again try to sign a player they tried to snatch from Aston Villa in 2022

Italian journalist and football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has named the player Premier League leaders, Arsenal are prioritising in the January transfer window.

A lot of pundits and Gunners supporters have identified the central striking position as the only area where the North London club are short as they challenge for the elusive league trophy.

Therefore, the name of Brentford striker, Ivan Toney,  who is currently suspended for gambling but expected to come back in January has been mentioned as Arsenal’s top priority. 

However, speaking on the topic via his X page, formerly Twitter, Romano said Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz remains the Gunnerl’s top target ahead of the January transfer window.

Luiz has been regularly linked with Arsenal and was the subject of three bids worth up to £25 million in the summer of 2022.

But Aston Villa stood firm and rejected the offers, wanting to keep hold of the Brazilian, According to Sky Sports.

Providing an update for the 25-year-old, Brazilian, Fabrizio Romano took to his social media page on Wednesday,  saying Luiz is still top on Arteta’s wish list but Emery isn’t willing to sell.

He tweeted: “Douglas Luiz remains Arsenal fav option as midfielder, he is considered the perfect player but Aston Villa remain on their position as they don’t want to sell Douglas.

“No changes since November, yet.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal will on Saturday travel to Anfield to take on second placed Liverpool in a Premier League game. 

Mikel Arteta’s men will extend their lead over the Reds to 4 points,  if they win the eagerly anticipated encounter, however, Klopp’s men will leapfrog the Gunners if they emerge victorious.
