Ezeokenwa became APGA chairman in 2023 after a convention in Awka, Anambra State. However, INEC insists it recognizes Njoku as the party chair

A factional Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sylvester Ezeokenwa, has countered claims by another factional leader of the party, Edozie Njoku that the internal wrangling in the party might affect the re-election bid of Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo.
He made this known on Friday while featuring on Channels Television’s programme ‘Politics Today’.
Njoku had during a recent interview admitted that the feud between him and Soludo could affect the party’s fortunes in next year’s governorship election.
Reacting to the statement, Ezeokenwa insisted that the crisis in the party won’t stop it from winning the state in 2025, saying similar circumstances did not stop former governors, Willie Obiano and Peter Obi from emerging as the first citizens of the state.

Speaking during the chat, he said, “We had this crisis in 2009, it did not stop the re-election of Governor Peter Obi; we had this crisis in 2013, it did not stop the re-election of Gov Willie Obiano; we had this issue in 2017, it did not stop the re-election of Gov Willie Obiano, we had this issue in 2021, it didn’t stop the election of Professor Charles Soludo.
“These men that are doing this thing, they do it every four years once the election approaches. But there is one thing, Anambra State and the people of Anambra understand and believe in APGA and what APGA has brought to Anambra State.”
Ezeokenwa became APGA chairman in May 2023 after an elective convention held in Awka, Anambra State.
However, in July, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), recognised Edozie Njoku as the national chair of APGA, saying it relied on a court order to do so.
Njoku has since argued that a convention that was held in Owerri, Imo State capital, produced him as APGA’s national chairman.
