Explosion rocks Trans-Niger pipeline after Rivers lawmakers’ impeachment notice to Gov Fubara

Trans-Niger Pipeline is located in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, an explosion has rocked the Trans-Niger Pipeline located in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of the state.

TheNiche learnt the explosion occurred late on Monday night near the Bodo-Bonny Road under construction.

Although the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time of writing this report, the affected portion of the major pipeline is still on fire.

It is, however, unclear if the incident occurred due to a mechanical fault or   human interference.

Militant groups have threatened to attack oil installations in Rivers State since the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike and his successor as governor, Sim Fubara fell out.

On Monday, the Rivers State House of Assembly issued a notice of “gross misconduct” on Gov Fubara, and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

According to Channels TV, the legislators, majority of whom are loyal to Wike, claimed in the notice that the action was in line with the Nigerian Constitution

.“In compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and other extant laws, we, the undersigned members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, hereby forward to you a Notice of Gross Misconduct by the Deputy Governor of Rivers State in the performance of the functions of her office,” the notice read
