Examination Malpractice: Student, 20, jailed 8 months

-

An Ikeja High Court on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old student, Abiodun Raheem, to eight months imprisonment for creating a Website to facilitate examination malpractices.

Justice Kudirat Jose handed the sentence to Raheem after he pleaded guilty to the offence during his re-arraignment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict had entered a plea bargain agreement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge convicted him of the three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and examination malpractices preferred against him.

Jose consequently sentenced him to eight months imprisonment on each of the count.

She said that the sentences would run concurrently beginning from April 1 when Raheem was arrested and detained for the offences.

EFCC counsel, Mr Mohammed Bashir, had earlier told the court that Raheem conspired to commit the offences on Jan. 27 in Lagos.

Bashir said the convict created a Website soliciting for potential candidates sitting for the May/June West African Examination Council Senior School Certificate Examination.

He said the Website offered solutions and answers to questions at a fee of N4, 000 to subscribers and it also contained the account details of the convict.
