Ex-athlete Okorie says NSC will make Nigeria’s sports great, picks Okowa for second term

An ex- athlete, former Athletics Federation of Nigeria performance director and board member Victor Okorie believes that sports in Nigeria has a bright future owing to the calibre of leaders heading the agency at the federal level.
He reiterated his contributions in sports through sponsorship and development, saying “I have competed and won medals for Nigeria internationally and now in the business of administration to raise new talents both at federal and zonal level.”
In a private chat, Okorie who’s based in the US said there would be much improvement when the present leadership of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) led by Mallam Shehu Dikko properly gets down to work.
“The future is bright for sports in Nigeria judging from the calibre of men in the NSC, people like Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, and Director general Bukola Olokpade.
“Aside that, the Podium finish Committee led by Yusuf Ali, this development would definitely shape the future of sports in Nigeria and ultimately make the future bright.”
On reports that the incumbent boss of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Chief Tonobok Okowa has confirmed his desire to run for another term for AFN President’s office, the ex-hurdler says, “Yes everyone has the right to seek for election and Chief Tonobok Okowa should be the be right man for the job.
Continuing, “This is because he has shown the pedigree of a leader by spending his personal resources for the Federation and has also been accepted by all, therefore, he earns our support moving forward.”
Victor Okorie from the SouthEast Zone has also indicated interest in seeking a re-election as a AFN board member from the zone in June when the election comes up in Asaba, per report byFaks media.
