Following the public outcry against the alleged brutality of members of the Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS, on social media, the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday launched two hashtags, apparently to counter the public outrage against them.
The hashtags #ReformSARS and #SupportSARS, came after the Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, refuted allegations that the force blamed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, of being behind the current social media outrage against them.
Using their twitter handle @PoliceNG to promote the hashtags, the force said, “The IGP, concerned with Public Interest on allegations, complaints and grievances of some members of the public against the activities of some members of SARS has so far made consequent orders for the reform of SARS”.
Using the hashtags, #EndSARS, #EndSARSNOW and #EndSARSBrutality, Nigerians from all walks of life gave gory details of how they or someone they know allegedly suffered in the hands of SARS operatives.
The Inspector General of Police promised to reform SARS.
