#EndSARS: Oodua Action Movement condemns killings of peaceful protesters

By Julius Alabi, Akure

A Socio- political group, Oodua Action Movement (OAM), has condemned the killings of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Tollgate and other parts of the South West.

The Global Coordinator of the group, Otunba Demola Edward, in Akure, Ondo State Capital, stated that the peaceful protest of the youths for legitimate demands did not warrant the use of live ammunitions by the Nigerian military and police.

“We also condemn police brutality which has been going on in the country for sometime now and the act of recklessness and lawlessness by the security apparatus of the Nigerian government as it appears to have been a carefully calculated and premeditated attack on peaceful protesters.

“We as a matter of urgency urge the Federal government to immediately address the demands of the protesters, while also reminding the government of the ultimatum OAM gave to the Nigerian government to put the process in place towards the actualization of an autonomous state for the South West Region.

Edward stressed that the group was deeply concerned and worried about the present situation of the region, which continues to deteriorate unabated.

According to him, there is need for self determination of the Yoruba nation that would guarantee speedy and monumental development of the region.

He therefore noted that nothing would stop the Yoruba nation from attaining an autonomous status within or without Nigeria. He said that it was ironical that the army which could not defeat the Boko Haram insurgents could roll out Armoured tanks against peaceful protesters and unleash death and destruction on the future of our nation.

OAM noted the denial by the federal government in the morning following the carnage as insulting and show of cowardice when the evidences are all over the media, both local and international.

Edward called on the Buhari administration to properly investigate and bring to justice without delay those behind the massacre of the unarmed peaceful protesters, to save itself from global shame and embarrassment.
