#EndSARS: Most businesses looted, destroyed were Igbo-owned – Army

Contrary to the stories peddled by mischief makers in the wake of the violence and looting that overshadowed the otherwise peaceful #EndSARS protests in Lagos, the Nigerian Army on Saturday confirmed that most of the businesses that were looted or destroyed in Lagos particularly Lekki, Ajah, Sangotedo and nearby places were actually owned by Igbos.

Some people who were on a mission to instigate violence against their usual bête noire, Ndigbo, took to the social media to baselessly claim that the massive destructions in the state was an orchestrated plot by one ethnic group to wipe away the civilisation of the Yoruba.

But Brigadier-General Ahmed Ibrahim Taiwo in his testimony at the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and other matters on Saturday, said nothing could be farther from the truth.

Instead, he stated categorically that the Igbo were the worst victims of the mayhem as it is usually the case when there is crisis in any part of the country.

The Army is testifying following its invitation by the panel in the wake of the October 20 shootings at the Lekki Toll Gate.

The Army has denied accusations that it shot and killed unarmed protesters.
