The #EndSARS protest has assumed a dangerous phase. Police stations are now being attacked by the protesters who seem to want to use the opportunity of the protest to settle old scores with police officers in their locality.
In Ajuwon, a community in Ogun state which borders Lagos State, the protesters are, at the time of filing this report, engaged in a face off with police officers of the Ajuwon police station.
TheNiche learned that the police station became a major target of the protesters because it has been notorious in carrying out indiscriminate arrest of youths who would eventually be bailed with huge sums of money.
The police officers at the Ajuwon police station appeared to be prepared for the protesters as they were seen positioned in combat formation outside the police station.
Things however got to a head when some protesters threw stones at the policemen who responded immediately with gunshots. That led to pandemonium. But the incident, did not however, deter the protesters who quickly mobilised again.
Afro music legend, Femi Kuti, who lives in Ajuwon, was being expected to address the protesters. But he was spotted leading another group of protesters in a video post.
At the Imuru police station in Ogun State, the police officers were not so lucky as they were overrun by the protesters, and the police station vandalized.
In Surulere area of Lagos State, one unidentified protester was killed by policemen who shot at the protesters in a bid to disperse them.
But the death of the protester did not dissuade the youths from going ahead with the protest. One of them simply said the killing of the protester was the reason they would continue to protest.
In Agege, there were two set of protests so far, and all have been peaceful. The first was led by singer, Small Doctor, who mobilized the youths from the area to Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa. But while that was going on, an exclusively women protest was staged by mothers who were singing in Yoruba against the SARS brutality .
