A false report about the sack of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has put the Nigerian apex banker on the top of Twitter trend.
It is not clear what is the exact source of the fake report which many Nigerians who commented on Twitter wished that it was true.
The law does not permit the president to unilaterally sack the CBN governor. But in 2013, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan removed the then CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi via suspension. Sanusi later became an emir and suffered the same fate when the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, removed Sanusi as emir.

On Twitter, the chatter about Emefiele’s fake removal as CBN governor has put him on the top spot of Twitter trend.
@AsiwajuLerry said: “If the sacking of the CBN Governor is true, EFCC suppose pick him up immediately for questioning. Starting with the names of each farmer that contributed money worth enough to buy him 100s of campaign vehicles, among others.”
@tope_ti said: “Emefiele is the worst CBN Governor in history. He met the Dollar at N164, and now Dollar is N608; that is 270% depreciation under his watch.Buhari doesn’t have the powers to sack the CBN governor without the senate approval Well, one day, all these will surely comes to an end.”
