Outgone Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State Command, DSP Bala Elkanah, owes successes recorded as the police mouthpiece in the state to journalists particularly, Correspondents’ Chapel members, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council.
Elkanah disclosed this while handing over to his successor, ASP Comfort Olawumi, at the state police command headquarters, Dutsen Kura area, Minna on Friday.
He added, ‘working with journalists is quite tasking but I gained a lot.
“Coming from entirely a different field to succeed as the PPRO in Niger State has really not been that easy task because journalists will always put you on your toes 24/7, it is really an experience worth remembering wherever I find myself in life.”
Elkanah recalled some of his most challenging moments and what he would be remembered for to include; embarking on series of enlightenment campaigns on radio, televisions, facebook, twitter, blogs which are part of strategies that brought about reduction in crime and other forms of crimes in the state.
“We are always on ground receiving calls, chats, text messages, twitter, blogs, name it from Nigerlites. We were always ahead on the heels of the criminals.
“In fighting crime you don’t keep quiet but say what you saw. If you see a stranger and decide to keep quiet, tomorrow you see another stranger and decide to keep quiet, you can never tell the day they will strike; you may be the victim or one of the victims,” he said.
