The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has charged its officers and men to be extra vigilant in carrying out adequate checks to unravel imports of arms and ammunitions as 2019 general election approaches.
According to the Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Abdullahi Baba Musa while speaking at a meeting with unit heads recently said that, all officers should ensure there is a 100 percent examination carried out on all containers, adding that its the only source to unravel issues of illegal arms importation, because the Lagos Ports Complex might be a target to route in such items.
The Command spokesman SC Uche Ejesieme also disclosed that, Comptroller Musa has tasked officers not to rely on importers information contained on their documents, as experience have shown that after a 100% physical examination, other information on the Importers documents are different.
The Controller stated emphatically that, the officers will do a lot of good to the entire country, through proper physical examination to ensure that concealment of dangerous imports did not find it’s way out of the Port.
He warned that the issue of the dearth of Scanners should not arise, stressing that any officer found culpable of any infraction will not go unpunished.
