Elder brother to Peter Obi’s running-mate, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, joins Tinubu’s govt

Spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has been appointed as Special Adviser on Political Issues in the office of the Vice-President, Kashim Shettima.
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary, is elder brother to Mr. Peter Obi’s running-mate in the February 25 presidential election, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
They ran on the ticket of the Labour Party.
His appointment is among a number of key appointments by President Bola Tinubu into Shettima’s office over the weekend.
Baba-Ahmed disclosed his new appointment in a post on his X handle on Monday, saying he is honoured to be given the chance to help contribute to building the country.

Claiming that he can no longer sit on the fence when he can be part of the system and contribute his quota to national development, the former INEC Secretary expressed his eagerness to contribute to the nation’s development in his capacity as Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Vice President.
Hakeem wrote, “It is time to make it public that I have accepted the call to serve as Special Adviser (Political) to the VP.
“This is not the time for fence-sitting or criticism when you can be useful in turning the country round. I am honored and humbled. Please pray for me & Nigeria.”
Baba-Ahmed once held the position of Chief of Staff to former Senate President Bukola Saraki from 2017 to 2019.
