The former governor was reacting to rumours that he is working with other political bigwigs in the country to form a strong force that would defeat the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.

Reacting to the reports, El-Rufai said he has identified the “lead peddler” of the  rumour and has instructed his lawyers to take necessary action.

Speaking via his verified social media page, El-Rufai tweeted: “Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”

According to the aide, El-Rufai, a prominent figure within the APC, could not have defected to the PDP without making it public.

The ex-governor has been at loggerheads with leaders of the ruling party since it won the 2023 presidential election.

His nomination as a minister was withdrawn by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the National Assembly refused to endorse it.
