Ekiti PDP urges Fayose to leave party
Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State have called on former Governor Ayodele Fayose to resign from the party, accusing him of consistent betrayal and undermining the PDP’s interests in the state.
The call came after Fayose, during a recent interview on Channels Television, described the PDP as “dead” both in Ekiti and nationwide, insisting it could no longer win elections.
In a strongly worded response, the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti, Dare Adeleke, slammed Fayose’s remarks, saying they were unbecoming of a former governor who rose to power on the party’s platform.
“Fayose has betrayed the PDP repeatedly. He openly backs the APC-led government in Ekiti while pretending to remain with us,” Adeleke said in a statement on Saturday. He claimed Fayose’s discontent stemmed from his failed bid to control the party’s structure in the state.
According to Adeleke, the former governor’s influence has waned significantly. “If Fayose was truly politically relevant, he would have moved the PDP’s base to another party by now. But no ward or local government chairman followed him,” he said.
He continued, “He admitted on national TV that he supported Tinubu simply because they’re friends and kinsmen. Is that how politics should be done? On tribal sentiment?”
Adeleke urged Fayose to formally exit the PDP, questioning why he remained in a party he consistently ridicules. He expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power in Ekiti in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
However, when contacted by the Sunday Tribune, Fayose dismissed Adeleke’s comments, calling him “inconsequential.”
“I won’t respond to him. Who is Dare Adeleke? He’s too insignificant to address me. I don’t reply to rats and cockroaches in my house,” Fayose said.
Meanwhile, former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has officially left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Olujimi, a long-time PDP stalwart who once served as Ekiti’s Deputy Governor and represented Ekiti South in the Senate, announced her defection on Saturday in her hometown of Omuo-Ekiti, Ward 7, Ekiti East Local Government.
She cited the need for a “fresh alignment with progressive ideals” and praised Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s inclusive leadership and achievements, saying they motivated her decision to join the APC.
Welcoming Olujimi to the ruling party, Ekiti State Commissioner for Transportation, Kehinde Ajobiewe, described her as a “political heavyweight” whose presence would strengthen the APC ahead of the 2026 elections.
Olujimi, who served as Special Assistant to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Media, remains a prominent figure in Ekiti politics, having played key roles in the PDP for over two decades.
