Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Ekiti State governor, has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

The governor, who confirmed his status on his Twitter handle, said that it was his third COVID-19 test.

He said, “I took my third COVID-19 test yesterday and it came back positive. I’m generally ok and I’m already self-isolating at home and receiving the best of care from my medical team”.

While delegating critical tasks to his deputy, Governor Fayemi assured that he would continue routine duties from his home.

Fayemi is the latest of about six Nigerian governors who have tested positive for the virus.

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, was the first governor confirmed to have been infected with COVID-19 and he recovered in April.

Mohammed was joined not too long afterward by the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El- Rufai.

Not long after the first two governors announced their COVID-19 status, they were soon joined by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.

On July 1st, Delta’s Ifeanyi Okowa announced that he and his wife had tested positive and a few days after on the 4th of July, Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, and his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom, announced that they also had caught the virus alongside their wives and aides.
