A statement issued by Mr Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary on Monday in Abuja, described Fayemi as a true democrat.

According to the statement, Fayemi’s action is a rare show of patriotism and sportsmanship.

“This exceptional show of statesmanship has indeed earned Fayemi the respect and admiration of Nigerians as a man of honour, a true democrat and a patriot.’’

It stated that Fayemi had exhibited the spirit of sportsmanship as propagated and practiced by the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.

The statement called on politicians in the country to imbibe the same spirit and “jettison all forms of bad loser syndrome ahead of the 2015 general elections.’’

It, however, said that credit must be given to President Jonathan for his insistence on free, fair and credible election at all levels.

The statement said it was on record that the PDP and the President had never hesitated in congratulating other parties and their candidates whenever they won an election.

It thanked the people of Ekiti state and the entire nation for the massive support given to the PDP.

Metuh said that the PDP under its current National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu was more committed to ensuring transparent and credible primaries that would guarantee the emergence of popular candidates for elections.

He stressed the need for stakeholders in the party to work harder in this direction.

According to him, the party will continue to provide a level playing ground for all Nigerians to genuinely pursue their aspirations for the overall interest of the nation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fayose polled 200,390 votes to emerge winner of the election, while the incumbent, Fayemi polled 120,433 votes.

The election was contested by 18 candidates from different political parties.
