Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, were among prominent Nigerians that felicitated with the Muslim faithful in Nigeria on Sunday on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
While Lawan urged Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of Ramadan, Obaseki called for love and tolerance
Lawan, in his Sallah message, called on Muslim faithful to imbibe the lessons of self-restraint, sacrifice, charity and sharing with their neighbours and the needy, which the Holy Month teaches us.
“We should also continue to pray for security and peace in our beloved country, Nigeria and in the world at large.
“As Nigerians, let us engage in what is right and avoid whatever is forbidden by our faith, and be good representatives of our faith.
“We should continue to abhor whatever threatens peace and embrace whatever strengthens the unity of our nation.
“The National Assembly will continue to play its role, in partnership with the Executive, towards achieving our national dreams and aspirations,” Lawan said.
While congratulating Nigerians, especially Muslim faithful in the country, as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitri, which marks the end of the 30 days of Ramadan fasting and prayers, Sanwo-Olu enjoined Muslims in Lagos State to continue on the path of spirituality, peaceful co-existence and to remain tolerant of other religious denominations in the State, saying that Lagos was noted for religious harmony.
Governor Sanwo-Olu in his Eid-el-Fitr message signed on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, prayed for Lagosians and Nigerians as a whole to witness and celebrate more Eid-el-Fitri in good health and prosperity.

The Governor, while stressing the need for a peaceful society, urged Muslims as well as other religious denominations in the country to continue to offer prayers for continued peace and stability in Nigeria, adding that all hands must be on deck to address the growing challenge of insecurity and other burning national issues.
He said: “As we celebrate Eid-el-Fitr worldwide, I want to join millions of people around the world, to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in Lagos State and in Nigeria, Eid Mubarak. We thank God for sparing our lives to witness and celebrate the Year 2022 Eid-el-Fitr.
“For the Muslims, Eid celebration is very unique. It is a feast to mark the end of a month-long spiritual renewal after 30 days of fasting, prayers and other spiritual activities.
“I want to urge my dear Muslim brothers and sisters to continue to emulate the good virtues inherent in Ramadan, such as helping the poor and the vulnerable in the society, offering gratitude to Allah, showing compassion and generosity to one another, among other good deeds that guide your faith.”
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, in a statement on Sunday ahead of the conclusion of 30 days of Ramadan fast 1443 A.H., described the days and nights of the month as ones like no other during which the (Muslim) faithful proudly competed to outdo one another in good deeds.
“I congratulate our Muslim brethren, and especially the leader of the faithful in Kwara State, the Emir of Ilorin Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari. It is my prayer to Almighty Allah to accept it as a worthy act of worship, accept all our supplications in and after Ramadan, set our country on the path of improved security and greatness, grant us the grace to observe many more of Ramadan in good health and best of faith, and reward us with Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the Governor said.
“I also commend everyone, including the political class, to carry on the message and spirit of Ramadan even after its completion. Ultimately, power belongs to God and He gives whomsoever He so wishes.”
In his Eid-el Fitr message, Obaseki charged Muslim faithful to sustain the lessons of sacrifice, selflessness, tolerance, discipline and love learnt during the period of Ramadan, noting that the virtues are necessary in achieving peace, unity and sustainable socio-economic development in the country.
Obaseki said, “I felicitate with our Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr after completing the Ramadan fast, a major pillar of Islam.
“The Holy month of Ramadan provided a fine opportunity for our Muslim brothers and sisters to reconnect with Allah, showing love, care and compassion to one another, especially at this time when majority of citizens are experiencing hardship arising from the nation’s harsh economic realities.
“However, I urge you not to forget the lessons learnt during this period. We must continue to imbibe the virtues of love, tolerance, sacrifice and charity, as taught by the Holy Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W), as it is only then can we be certain of achieving peace and unity, and place the country on the path of sustainable development.”
